HP Scanjet 5100C parport scanner and suse 7.3
Has anyone been successful in getting this scanner to work? Harry G
Is it the parallel port model? Yast2 scanner detection just locks while probing hardware at 20%. I verifyed that sane and Xsane was installed. (Xsane can't see it either). I even tried Yast1. Did you download a backend or something? Harry G On Thursday January 31 2002 08:24 am, Anders Johansson wrote:

Yep, I have one of those. 7.3 detected it automatically, and it works very well

Yes, it's a parport scanner. I had it running in previous versions as well, but there I had to do some laying-on-of-hands to get it working. In 7.3 I had to do no downloads at all. I had the scanner plugged in when I installed the OS, and the installer took care of everything automagically. //Anders

IF you don't mind, what exactly did you have to do? (Remember, your talking to a newbie!). Harry G

In 7.3 I had to do nothing, so I'm surprised it's not working for you. In previous versions, here's what I did modprobe ppscsi modprobe epst If this procedure works for you, put those two modprobes in /etc/rc.d/boot.local, so it happens automatically on startup. Check /var/log/messages. There should be a message that the scanner has been detected, and assigned a device /dev/sgX, where X is some number. In my case it's 1 Edit /etc/sane.d/hp.conf. That file should have these two lines scsi HP /dev/sgX again, the X should be the number you noted in /var/log/messages Now make sure you can use the scanner as a normal user with chmod o+rw /dev/sgX and that should be it. You can now start xsane with xsane hp:/dev/sgX Hope that helps you Anders
Hi guys... did any one know any free-obfuscation tool to encrypt the PHP code and still be available to be executed using Apache under Linux? Thanks in advance.
Thank you soooo much! This is the first time anyone could explain it to me! It FINALLY works! Harry G
