I wish to have an X-remote server and to log in from other workstations, is there any howto? L.

On the system you want to connect to, edit /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc and change [Xdmcp] Enable=false to Enable=true

Forgot to mention, the above is for KDE. There'd be something similar for Gnome or other desktop.

It is for kdm, which is not bound or restricted to KDE. It is just the display manager with KDE look. Another display manager is gdm, which uses Gnome look. There are others... XDMCP is configurable in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager (DISPLAYMANAGER_REMOTE_ACCESS="yes"), running SuSEconfig afterwards and then restarting the display manager (rcxdm restart, after! you logged out from your X session). -- Viele Grüße ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Michael

Peek at vnc, it comes with SuSE, just install it, configure it and use it. You can get a vnc-viewer for your desktop in most cases. If not, vnc can also provide a java viewer trough http. See (for example) http://www.realvnc.com/ for a viewer for your desktop. If you have SuSE installed, point yast2 to NetworkServices -> RemoteAdministration. Here enable as you like. Now point vncviewer to your linux machine `linuxbox:1` and off you go. CBee

CBee Just for completeness... There is about 6 ways to run VNC on SUSE... You could use the FREENX server... and you can setup remote access to X-Windows with YAST (versus hacking the initialization scripts as mentioned in a previous post)
So If you told us what you really wanted we could help you decide which way is best for you... Jerry

We use VNC at work and I'm not all that impressed with it. We also use Citrix Metaframe, which is even worse. However, both of those are on Windows, so perhaps the Linux version is better.

What's wrong with Citrix Metaframe? I use it all the time to connect from Linux to MS Windows boxes that my employer insists on using, but I never ever encountered a problem, that wouldn't have been there without CMF. :-) Regards, -- Jos van Kan registered Linux user #152704

Well, where should I begin? Often the cursor is not exactly where you think it is, so you click on the wrong item. Then there's the general sluggishness. It crashes occasionally (yeah, that's probably Windows fault), cut 'n paste doesn't always work,...
