I just noticed that if I type in a partial directory, and hit <TAB> the matching directories/files shown include hidden ones.
Is this suppose to happen?
Hi Jim, This question comes up from time to time. The purpose of so called "hiden files" is to keep down the clutter. As you may know in Konqueror under "View" you can select to show "hidden files" or not; it's your choice. In autocompletion, hitting <tab> once "comletes" the entry (if it's unique) If it is not unique hitting <tab><tab> gives you a list, which includes the hidden files. The reasoning I am sure is if you knew the name of the file you would just type it (except at the slow rate I type, autocompletion is sure nice). If you didn't want your hidden files to show you probably could set something in your ~/.bashrc or in /etc/bash.bashrc.local Or if you really want to "hide" a file you coud put a lock on it or password protect it. See: < http://www.felgall.com/lincmd5.htm > which explains that the only difference between a hidden file and one that is "not hidden" is the period in front of the name.
