¿Does anybody know if the Realplayer 5.0 plugin for Nestscape Cummunicator 4.5 works under Suse 6.0? I've tried to follow up the instructions but I don't get it working. I just tried to play a Realaudio file with Suse6, and Rvplayer5.0 and got a general error. I did a library dependency and it seems I'm missing some libs. zentara@zentara:~/rvplayer5.0 > ldd rvplayer libXmu.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXmu.so.6 (0x40007000) libXt.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.so.6 (0x40019000) libXext.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6 (0x40061000) libX11.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.6 (0x4006d000) libdl.so.1 => /lib/libdl.so.1 (0x40112000) libg++.so.27 => not found libstdc++.so.27 => not found libm.so.5 => not found libc.so.5 => not found libSM.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libSM.so.6 (0x40116000) libICE.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libICE.so.6 (0x4011f000) libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x40134000) /lib/ld-linux.so.1 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x2aaaa000) I'm going to try and copy them into my cache from my old 5.3 setup and see if it works. These are the same files needed to run Netscape 4.51. I guess they are mixing libc5 and libc6. -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

Well I setup symlinks, and copied my old libs into suse6 and did a ldconfig. The Realplayer has all of it's ldd dependencies satisfied, yet it still won't work. It starts to play, then it's stops with Gerneral Error 1. Recommended Solution: Customers with the RealPlayer 5.0 for Linux on a system with the newer Linux 2.1 or 2.2 kernels will experience a "General Error. An error occurred: Error 1; audio write: Errno" error message. The current Linux 2.1, and 2.2 kernels contain a modification to the audio device that crashes the 5.0 Linux player. Thanks, this patch works. He did setup a batch file to preload the open.so library; and he then called the rvplayer with an "rplayer" script. This alters the directions for setting up Helper Applications in Netscape, calling rplayer instead of rvplayer. I found that you don't need the "rplayer script" if you alter the .bashrc file to change the "export LD_LIBRARY_PATH" environment variable. The new statement should be: export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$HOME/rvplayer5.0 LD_PRELOAD=$HOME/rvplayer5.0/open.so Then do a "source .bashrc" This way calling rvplayer works. -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>
If I am not mistaken (wouldn't be the first time), Realplayer 5.0 is not compatible with the 2.2.x kernel. I dl awhile back and I think I traced the error message back to the RV site. There is supposed to be a patch, I think, but I could never get it to work. zentara wrote:

It sure doesn't work on my system. I had it working fine under 5.3 but when I upgrade to 6.0 I couldn't get it to work again. Gerry On 22-Mar-99 Luis A. Fernandez wrote:
