[opensuse] Virtualbox installation difficulty
Hi, I am trying to install Virtualbox-4.3-4.3.6_91406_openSUSE114-1.x86_64.rpm from VirtualBox on my openSUSE 13.1 system. I had tried to install this on my opensuse 12.3 system, but it wouldn't install, so I have upgraded my system to opensuse 13.1. But it still won't install. The difficulty it encounters is that a dependency can't be found. Yast tells me that "nothing provides libvpx.so.0()(64bit)needed by VirtualBox-4.3-4.3.6_91406_openSUSE114-1.x86_64. I tried using Package Search to locate a more advanced version of libvpx1 and libvpx. The versions I located are 1.3.0 for both, and libvpx1 will install and libvpx won't install. But it doesn't matter, as I still get the same dependency missing requirement from the Yast dependency resolver after I have installed the newer version. My question is obviously, how to resolve this problem to satisfy the dependency and get VirtualBox installed. Install the version in the openSUSE repositories, that works just fine. The version you're installing is for openSUSE 11.4. The version in the repos is 4.2, but unless there's a specific feature of 4.3 that you absolutely have to have, 4.2 works just fine - I use it pretty regularly here on 13.1 with no problems at all. there is a later rpm: VirtualBox-4.3-4.3.6_91406_openSUSE123-1.x86_64 And I have it running fine on Tumbleweed.
The difficulty it encounters is that a dependency can't be found. Yast tells me that "nothing provides libvpx.so.0()(64bit)needed by VirtualBox-4.3-4.3.6_91406_openSUSE114-1.x86_64.
I do not have libvpx.so.0 locate libvpx.so /usr/lib64/libvpx.so.1 /usr/lib64/libvpx.so.1.3 /usr/lib64/libvpx.so.1.3.0 libvpx1-1.3.0-9.2.x86_64 from packman

I have libvpx1 but not libvpx

Just guessing but try the later version of VirtualBox-4.3 -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hi, the problem was that I didn't realize the rpm had changed. I had been running the 11.4 rpm version and kept updating it even on 12.3 without a hitch. It was only the last update to the newest 11.4 rpm that wouldn't install on 12.3 or 13.1. I downloaded the 12.3/13.1 version rpm from Virtualbox and it installed correctly now without any problems. I download the rpm directly from VirtualBox, as the opensuse virtualbox rpm hadn't worked for years. Glad to read that it is working now.
