Hello: I have this strange problem: I have burned data onto a TDK DVD-RW by a Pioneer DVR-108 DVD writer (burned an ISO image with k3b). After burning I have checked the DVD by ejecting and reinserting the DVD: my openSUSE 10.3 system could mount the DVD. I compared the conctent of the DVD and that of the hard drive and all the files were binary equal, so the DVD is OK. On another computer (openSUSE 10.2 system) with a NEC ND- 3540 DVD writer I can't mount the DVD. The system recognizes it as a blank DVD. What can be the problem and how could I solve it? TIA, IG ________________________________________________________ A karácsony elmúlt…Ragaszd albumba a pillanatot! 50 db kép csak 1299 Ft! http://www.fotokidolgozas.origo.hu -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi Istvan and Happy New Year! I checked the specs on both drives and they seem to be compatible with respect to supported media and modes. Maybe one is "sloppier" and the other "tighter" vis a vis calibrating to inserted media for creating or detecting tracks? Here's what I'd do (YMMV, of course!): a) burn a comparable test disc with the NEC using a fresh blank b) check if the Pioneer is able to read it c) (re)write your data on that disc using the Pioneer drive d) cross fingers :-) and test to see if the NEC drive can now read it The goal, of course, is test to see if you can 'convince' the Pioneer drive to properly calibrate and write in a mode that is readable by the NEC drive as opposed to a possibly incompatible default? I know, not very sophisticated but worth trying in a pinch! regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

did you "fix" or "close" or "finalize" or whatever your dvd writer name ending the dvd to be read by others? jdd -- http://www.dodin.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

What error are you getting when the DVD mount is attempted? Try wodim dev=<your DVD device name > -atip with the DVD in drive at CLI and see what you get... also try wodim dev=<your DVD device name > -prcap To find out what the device reports it is capable of doing. I have had issues with readers not identifying the FS on the media and having to force a mount with the -t option in the past. - -- ============================================================================== I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone. wodim -atip dev=/dev/hda This is wodim, not cdrecord. Don't expect it to behave like cdrecord in any way, don't refer to it as "cdrecord". Send problem reports to debburn-devel@lists.alioth.debian.org, don't bother Joerg Schilling with any

<snip>
mounting: # mount /dev/hda /mnt -t iso9660 mount: block device /dev/hda is write-protected, mounting read-only mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda, missing codepage or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so
<snip> The wodim stuff suggests nothing odd. Though DVD-RW/DVD-R media is not the best choice for data work... Your DVD unit is not able to write DVD+RW, but should be capable of reading such media even if this capability is not mentioned. (DVD+RW does not need finalizing among other things and is designed to be read by DVD-R devices). I would try ... mount -t iso9660 <your device name> <your mount point> With DVD in drive. You will probably need to to do this as root. If it loads OK start saving up for a new writer but to be certain burn a another RW DVD and test it , if it does not work at all you probably need a new writer. The dmesg output suggests the writer is attempting to read beyond the end of the media for info and not finding it.
