I got a new laptop and installed 9 on it. Everything went very smoothly and most of the hardware is recognized and operates fine. The only thing I haven't been able to activate is this card reader. Is there any linux driver for this type of readers? has anybody experience with these in laptops? My laptop is from a "not known brand" so I don't know how successful I will be with this. Thanks for any help, Felipe.

You might be out of luck, I'm afraid. Card readers can be a bit of a git to get working. Most are USB based (don't know about laptop built-in ones) and these will work if they present as mass-storage devices but not if they need drivers. When they work, they "just work" - hotplug will create a mount point for the card when inserted (look in /media). You could try looking at the hardware profile in YaST and see if it shows anything. After you install a card in the reader, run "fdisk -l" in a console window (you may need to be root). If the reader is recognized then you will see an entry similar to /dev/sd???, that will be the memory card. I bought my notebook from Powernotebooks.com and the card reader worked after install, although I have only tried it with SD cards so far. -- Hugh mailto: hrtlist@cpia.jhu.edu Felipe Leon wrote:

My notebook/laptop is from www.powernotebooks.com and is manufactured by Quantas. It has a 6in1 built-in card reader. I found that if I have a card in the slot when I boot the machine it recognizes it and produces a desktop icon. I just now inserted a SD card and it is not hotplug-recognized with a new icon. It is recognized using "lsusb". "lsusb" is a Bash command that tells you what USB hardware is installed and what resources it offers and uses. (You will need to execute it as Root.) dmc Felipe Leon wrote:
