Hi all,
I'm thinking about getting a color laser printer. It has 4 toners, ie black, red, yellow, and blue. I've never had a color one before, so my question is do all the toners run low at the same time? They are about 150€ each and if I had to replace them all at once it would hurt.
Anyway, I'm looking at a very good deal on a Samsung CLX-6210FX. Does anyone know anything about this printer and Linux?
Thanks,
JIM in Germany
Hi Jim. I don't know the Samsung printers at all, but have been a happy owner of an Epson AccuLaser1100n for about 3 years, and it works nicely together with oS 10.3 - 11.0 - 11.2 and CentOS 5. When it comes to toner, no they don't runs empty at the same time, at least very seldom. As Anton mentioned, look around for the toner, I would think you can save as much as 30% by doing so. With my printer I have sometimes been able to buy a box with all 4 colors in one for the prize of less than 3 regular single packs. www.inkclub.com sometimes have good deals. -- Greeting Joel Young Norway -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi Jim,
From personal experience with a 4-color Samsung printer, their support for openSuSE was a bit lacking. They have a Linux driver that mostly works, but it was giving us enough heartache that we gave the printer away to a Windows XP user, who is quite happy with it. This happened about 2-years ago, it's possible that Samsung has improved their software by now.
The Samsung was replaced with a Xerox Phaser 6360, which is a dandy printer for an office environment. Xerox also has more inexpensive models that I've also had good luck with, like the 6280. Xerox provides the PPD file that can be plugged into CUPS, where with Samsung you had to use their whole printing package. No, the cartridges will rarely all run out at the same time. It depends on the characteristics of your printing mix. I've had a 6260 at home for one year and haven't had to replace anything yet. (btw, we just had an earthquake while I was typing that last sentence. Apparently a 5.9 in Baja California, MX.)
