[opensuse] hal help documentation - dvd usb net blocked.
Hi: I believe I am having problems with HAL. After rebooting my computer I can no longer access my DVD drive, can't access any usb storage drivers, and I must manually start my ethernet card with ifconfig & dhclient. I've used hwinfo to confirm that the system recognizes all of these devices. I can't find any good documentation on HAL and how to determine whether it is allowing access to a device. I had been messing around with mtp support software earlier and remember changing some of the HAL configuration files to attempt to get a samsung p2 media player to work with amarok. Can any anyone point me to good documentation or tools for HAL - or if someone knows the answer to my problem. Thanks, Gord -- Gordon J. It sounds like they used to work, but don't work anymore.

And it sounds like you broke something. One simple solution would be to reinstall SuSE and make a backup of your install before you start making changes. I like to rsync my working install to another partition before I do upgrades or tweaks. Just keep in mind that you might have to rerun your boot loader in the event you have to restore your partition. Also, have you seen http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Media_Devices or https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/amarok ?

1st Google result for "hal linux" http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/hal Also open up YaST. Search for "hal". Select the package hal from the results. Now look under the Description and Change Log tabs. Those people might be able to help you further. For example: Authors: Danny Kukawka <danny.kukawka at web.de> Kay Sievers <kay.sievers at vrfy.org> Joe Shaw <joeshaw at novell.com> David Zeuthen <david at fubar.dk> Also notice that Danny is maintaining the package.
