I had something similar happen when I installed a PCI soundcard. It turned out the soundcard was taking the same IRQ as the HPT366 controller. I cured it by putting the soundcard in a different PCI slot. Do you have PCI cards you can try and put in different slots? -- Never trust a man in a suit -- cll -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
You might also wanted to make the eide boot disk so that you are booting from this kernel which has the driver with it. You can find this image in the disks directory of cd1. You should also install the eide kernel at the end of the install. The eide kernel has more drivers for various ide chipsets and controllers. * muzh (muzh@ihug.co.nz) [000830 21:57]: -->Michael Haiduk wrote: -->> -->> I'm using the 6.4 evaluation ISO -->> -->> My hardware: -->> -Abit BF6 -->> -128Mb SDRAM -->> -CL Annihilator Pro (GeForce DDR) -->> -CL SBLive -->> -CL DXR3 -->> -CL Voodoo2 -->> -3Com 905 -->> -Promise Ultra66 -->> -->> These are the last few lines of info before my computer freezes: -->> -->> PIIX4: IDE controller on PCI bus 00 dev 39 -->> PIIX4: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later -->> ide0: BM-DMA at 0xf000-0xf007, BIOS settings: hda: DMA, hdb: pio -->> ide1: BM-DMA at 0xf00f-0xf00f, BIOS settings: hdc: DMA, hdd: pio -->> PDC20262: IDE controller on PCI bus 00 dev 78 -->> PDC20262: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later -->> ide2: BM-DMA at 0xe000-0xe007, BIOS settings: hde: pio, hdf: DMA -->> ide3: BM-DMA at 0xe008-0xe00f, BIOS settings: hdg: DMA. hdf: DMA -->> hda: IBM-DTTA-371010, ATA DISK drive -->> hdc: CREATIVE DVD-ROM DVD6240E, ATAPI CDROM drive -->> hdd: IOMEGA ZIP 100 ATAPI, ATAPI FLOPPY drive -->> hde: IBM-DPTA-373420. As to the performance or functionality of the Ultra66 card, try downloading the updated BIOS for this card from http://promise.com and install it as described in the readme. Michael Haiduk wrote:
