HP ScanJet 3500c don't run under suse linux pro 9.1
I tryed more scan configuration how to link this scanner to suse linux, via sane libraries, without results. Can anyone have the same scanner running under suse? -- Kalos Bonasia

Although linux can access the canon scanner, why would you counsel someone to purchase a scanner from a company who, for the most part, refuses to support linux? Most Epson and most HP *are* supported and both cos support linux. note: canon does provide a few proprietary drivers for a smaill number of their products (cameras, printers and scanners). -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

The Epson Perfection 2400 Photo fits the bill as you have described and has a back-lite for scanning negatives and slides. It is recognized by sane/xsane and makes very good slides. I got mine on sale from Staples for ~us$109.95. I am very satisfied with it. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

www.epson.com Are you not connected to the net? I am *not* trying to sell you something and am *not* going to research for you, unless you want to hire my services. I have not looked at local stores for the 2400 but I have found that one of the computer parts sources we order parts from here at work ( synnex) has the Epson Perfection 2480 for 88. I'm guessing thats is an upgraded version of what you have.
I'm think of ordering it or the next one up from it. From what I have read about epson i'm guessing it will work on linux also. thanks for the suggestion. jack PS I tried an hp5500c but it did not seem work with suse 9.2. we have that model here at work.

Mine worked 'out of the box'. I did have to edit /etc/sane.d/epson.conf, and will help you if you need. I would check sane.org on the compatability of the 2480, as I was only interested in the 2400 when I did my research. gud luk, -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

s/b xsane.org and bad news for the 2480. I can find *no* mention of linux support. Looks like it is not in the 2400/2450 family. Epson does not provide drivers either. and *good* news. www.hamrick.com has drivers in their offering, vuescan, but it costs us$59.95/$79.95. They have crippled demo versions available. I have an un-crippled demo version but do not know if it supports the 2480 :^(.. it is usb/2 it has back-lite looks like it would be cheaper to spring for the 2400. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

Snide remarks are poor neticut. If you dont know just say that. I asked a question from someone who I beleived owned one of these scanners and was capable and polite enough to answer. Your responce was of no help. CWSIV ________________________________________________________________ Speed up your surfing with Juno SpeedBand. Now includes pop-up blocker!
