I have tried connecting to my Palm Pilot with both kpilot and jpilot with no success as a regular user. I can connect as root, but not as the user that should connect on a daily basis. I have /dev/ttyS0 and /dev/pilot set up like this: david@dt:~> ls -al /dev/ttyS0 crwSr-Sr-- 1 root uucp 4, 64 Oct 28 14:57 /dev/ttyS0 david@dt:~> ls -al /dev/pilot lrwxrwxrwx 1 root uucp 10 Oct 28 11:56 /dev/pilot -> /dev/ttyS0 david@dt:~> 'david' which is the user that should connect, has been included in group 'uucp'. Is this wrong? Should I look for something completely different? Best regards, David List

Hello David, Have you tested your connection with palm link? look at "palm-xfer --help"
Also, make sure that your /dev/ttyS0 is really free. That was my problem! I had to switch to /dev/ttyS1.
A real good test (as well as a permanent tool) is the script sent to me by Scott Courtney
(see attachment)

I'm not sure about what you mean by "free". I have nothing else connected to /dev/ttyS0 physically at any time, and as I said root can connect to the Palm Pilot (with jpilot - I haven't tried with other applications). Thank you for your answer. Best regards, David List
