I have a Billion BiPAC 7000 ADSL USB Modem. When I plugin my ADSL modem into my USB port, SuSE detects it. Here's the copy/paste from the YaST hardware detection: 83: USB 00.0: 0000 Unclassified device [Created at manual.278] Unique ID: UfPf.jTCezyrNOA5 Parent ID: 2XnU.qv6OTak9psD SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.3/usb5/5-1/5-1:1.0 SysFS BusID: 5-1:1.0 Hardware Class: unknown Model: "Conexant Systems (Rockwell) ADSL USB MODEM" Hotplug: USB Vendor: usb 0x0572 "Conexant Systems (Rockwell), Inc." Device: usb 0xcb06 "ADSL USB MODEM" Revision: "0.01" Serial ID: "17684544" Speed: 0 bps Config Status: cfg=new, avail=no, need=no, active=unknown Attached to: #77 (Hub) Looks like it uses the Conexant chipset. So now what do I do to get this ADSL modem working on SuSE? Thanks. -- Shriramana Sharma http://samvit.org

You could try looking at http://accessrunner.sourceforge.net/ though there's no guarantee that this will actually work if your modem is not listed. You'll probably also need /usr/lib/pppd/2.4.3/pppoatm.so This library was missing (bug in source) in 9.3 when it shipped. -- JDL

Thanks, I already signed up to their mailing list, but am yet to go through their documentation in a peaceful state of mind! :)

Well I just got a message from the accessrunner list and I attach it. I find difficulty in understanding it (the attached mail) for two reasons: 1. the writer of the mail is Thai and his English is a bit "different". 2. I am not as techie as the writer of this mail. So I would appreciate help in translating this to a format I can understand.

So where do I get it from? -- Shriramana Sharma http://samvit.org I can use billion bipac 7000. I've collect some needed tools with cxacru drivers ... (This driver in not recent CVS version) http://202.142.215.48/~sf_alpha/sf_alpha/archives/cxacru-1.tar.bz2 It typically type 'make' and 'make install' if you have your kernel sources (point by /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build) But sometimes you need to edit makefile. (I test only on my gentoo system). This is link of my windows modem driver from my internet provider. I can extract with 'cxacru-fw' http://www.trueinternet.co.th/download/billion/Billion%20V.3.zip $ unzip Billion\ V.3.zip $ ./cxacru-fw Billion\ V.3/Driver/CnxEtU.sys cxacru-fw.bin found firmware in `Billion V.3/Driver/CnxEtU.sys' at offset 0x41c0 copy cxacru-fw to /lib/firmware and check if modules usbatm.ko and cxacru.ko is installed on /lib/modules/... You may need to do depmod to let modprobe works. $ depmod -ae If your hotplug is correctly working. just type 'modprobe cxacru' should upload firmware to modem and led will blinking. Some kernel message will tell you after few seconds that Line is up when LED stop blinking. I don't know how to use PPPoA For Bridge or PPPoE Next you need to setup RFC2684 Bridge use br2684ctl You need to know encapsulation and VPI, VCI of your provider $ br1684ctl -c 0 -b -a VPI.VCI for PPPoE/Bridge-LLC or $ br2674ctl -c 0 -e 1 -b -a VPI.VCI for PPPoE/Bridge-VCMUX If it not error try ifconfig nas0 it will show interface nas0. $ ifconfig nas0 up Then for PPPoE use adsl-setup and adsl-start from rp-pppoe to setup and connect. Remember your PPPoE ethernet interface is 'nas0'
