Re: [S.u.S.E. Linux] Adaptec 2940 scsi controler
Hi, You did more or less everything right, but : If you use this SCSI controller as a boot device the driver MUST be included in the kernel and not compiled as module. The cdrom will work as module fine. Regards, Stefan
Hi All
I'm tyring get my adaptec 2940 scsi controler to work in SuSE 5.1. I recompiled the latest 2.0.33 kernel (actually downloaded it from the suse ftp site, from the 5.2 version). I enabled the driver for the scsi controler modular (aic7xxx driver) and I enabled the scsi cdrom device modular, as well. The compiliation went well I re-booted my machine and no scsi controler was detected (so I didn't worry too much). I then login in as root and preceeded to manually install the scsi controler driver using this command 'insmod aic7xxx.o', then the trouble begain. I couldn't get the prompt (I had to bring up another xterm) I couldn't 'kill' the PID# pertaining to the command 'insmod aic7xxx.o' and the system load started to rise. Thus, I had to shut the system down and reboot. I believe I did everything right as far as the compiliation of the kernel and enabling the right drivers. I just don't know what could be causing this to happen. If anyone has suggestion as to what might be causing this problem and a solution to go along with it, please feel free to respone. Thank you in advance for your help.
Regards,
-Chris
