Harry, I am told that when the arpa net first started, messages had to be appreviated to keep down costs. There is a "big list" of common abbreviations: which "IIRC" is only one. If you "google on "IIRC + definition" it will return as top enty: Gopher: Definition Menu for IIRC. ... To find Gopher browsers, click here. Gopher: Definition Menu for IIRC. Definitions for 'IIRC' in database 'jargon', All 1 definitions on a single page, plain. . gopher.quux.org:70/pygfarm/dict.pyg%3F/ jargon/DEFINE/IIRC - 3k - Cached - Similar pages There are other lists -- some in German which I have found helpful. Got to remember folks that back when arpanet started we were considered to have a superfast net link if we had 110bd (only found usually on campus around the computer centre), the usual was only 50 (or 75 if we were lucky and had a Teletype that would run that fast as well as being close enough to the local hub to run that fast). showing my age scsijon ps I wonder if there are many of the old international group around still playing with computers as I was the 'baby' of my group! Learned to type on a teletype in the service. Punch the paper tape, make corrections & send to rajomb at Okinawa. Not of that group maybe but I recall being pretty quick at "reading" that paper tape and being able to make corrections by "adding" a letter with the correct punch sequence to fix an error...and I was in Turkey doing that, and later in Okinawa. List: my humble apologies for the beginning ramblings of an old man. Richard
