I've just upgraded from 9.1 to 10.0, and liking it. One problem is that, although the KDE control centre now changes GTK themes as well (nice touch!), the font selections in Gnome apps (such as Firefox and Gaim) don't seem to change with them. Can anyone suggest how to set the Gtk font? IIRC, there used to be some lines I could insert into ~/.gtkrc, but there doesn't seem to be one of these files any more. If you do it once with gnome-control-center, you can then find the files in ~/.gconf where these settings get housed by gcc, and make further changes manually if you like. -- "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." Thanks for that. Sadly, I don't have any of Gnome installed. Is there any way without having to install more software? I've installed it and it works - but only for a single login. Logging out and back in requires be to reset the font. I assume that this is because gnome-settings-daemon or whatever it now is needs to be running. Is there any way to set the Gtk font without this daemon? I'm sure I managed it in the past... gnome-control-center and its deps won't terribly penalize people with a reasonable amount of freespace on /. You could install it, run it a bit, then uninstall. There are other options for Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/unix/customizing.html http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/edit http://www.mozilla.org/unix/dpi.html If you really want to try doing it the hard way, as a starting point, here's ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/font_rendering/%gconf.xml: <?xml version="1.0"?> <gconf><entry name="antialiasing" mtime="1123874613" muser="username" type="string"><stringvalue>grayscale</stringvalue></entry><entry name="hinting" mtime="1123874613" muser="username" type="string"><stringvalue>medium</stringvalue></entry><entry name="dpi" mtime="1123874624" muser="username" type="float" value="120"/></gconf> and ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/interface/%gconf.xml: <?xml version="1.0"?> <gconf><entry name="font_name" mtime="1123874662" muser="username" type="string"><stringvalue>Sans 11</stringvalue></entry><entry name="monospace_font_name" mtime="1123874684" muser="username" type="string"><stringvalue>Sans 11</stringvalue></entry></gconf> -- "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." You should have a file in your home directory called .gtk_qt_engine_rc. At the end of it, drop in: style "user-font" { font_name="Sans Serif 12" } widget_class "*" style "user-font" It works here. It might well just work with only the line: gtk-font-name="Sans Serif 12". You can change Sans Serif 12 to what you prefer. You will need to repeat the process every time you change your KDE theme stuff, though, as it will overwrite this file from the KDE control center. :) Fish

In 10.0 this file is named ~/.gtkrc-2.0 (even though the actual gtk version is 2.8.something). Create it if it does not exist. No need for gnome-settings-daemon any more. Mine has just this line in it: gtk-font-name = "Adobe Helvetica 14"
