There is a kernel/sane bug which breaks many USB scanners. Make sure you have at least version 1.0.25 of SANE installed.
I installed sane-backends version 1.0.27 from Sauerland OBS repository, but the scanner still isn't recognized in yast Scanner configuration window.

I checked out the site for the manual. Yes, it's USB only. I think you said it works in Windows. Have you tried to install WINE in your Linux, and then install the Windows software on WINE. Maybe that'll work.
--doug Thanks for the tip about using the windows driver in Wine. I'll give it a shot this weekend. I am on a business trip at the moment and won't get a chance to work on the computer at home again for a couple of days. Mark
