SuSE9.3/KDE3.4.0 Level "b" I find that the cursor disappears from my desktop at seemingly random times. The only way that I have found to restore the cursor is CTRL-ALT-Backspace followed by restarting KDE. The desktop had been running without this problem since 4/22/05. It just started a few days ago. Has anyone else noticed this behavior and found a solution? Thanks in advance. -- Stephen P. I agree, if your using a KVM switch the mouse can become unusable. I try to stick to the CLI interfaces (tty1, tty2, etc.) for that reason. This has definately been discussed before. I don't remember it solutions/workarounds were described. Greg -- Greg Freemyer The Norcross Group Forensics for the 21st Century

Well, there are a lot of KVM switches out there, but the ones I've used have not caused mouse problems. In particular, they do not cause the kind of symptoms often associated with disconnecting and reconnecting the mouse (without a KVM switch). I believe that's because they're well enough designed to present continuous signal or impedance levels to the mouse port on the system to which they're attached even when the mouse itself is connected to another computer.

Here's a guess / speculation: If you have a video card that can drive more than one monitor, have it configured for dual-monitor operation but have only one monitor connected, the mouse can move onto the phantom monitor and disappear from view. I've experienced this from time to time when I configure a new system or new video card and Sax2 senses the dual-monitor capability and enables it by default. Before I realized what's going on, it's rather disconcerting. So, could this be the problem? What make and model video card are you using? How many monitors?

Is the kvm your using soft or hard? My IOGEAR has logic which uses a double tap on <scroll lock> other kinds use software. What did you update in recently? -- ___ _ _ _ ____ _ _ _ | | | | [__ | | | |___ |_|_| ___] | \/
