I am sorry I didn't make it clear in my original email.
My Solaris box also runs KDE (I dumped the stock CDE), Netscape and
StarOffice. All these applications are more stable on Solaris.

This is not system instability. This is application instability. All of these packages are notoriously unstable. Star is prolly the most stable in this list. I would definitely dump kde for XFCE3.
