I cannot get KDE to start from X-Windows--I am using SUSE 5.2--any ideas? In your .xinitrc in your home dir, put in startkde and suzzam...

I have done that, but it did not work. Are you using startx to start X-Windows or xinit? I use startx. What do I have to do to get startx, etc to be as simple as possible and still work?

.xinitrc is used by startx to declare what window manager you want to use and what programs you want to autolaunch at start up, they are not seperate ways of starting x. SuSE uses SuSEwm, which handles all of that stuff for you. I prefer to do it myself. If you create an .xinitrc in your dir it will override SuSEwm. -- ==================================================================== Michael Lankton <A HREF="http://tasteslikechicken.ml.org"><A HREF="http://tasteslikechicken.ml.org</A">http://tasteslikechicken.ml.org</A</A>> ==================================================================== - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
The way I set my system to start KDE is by setting the environment variable WINDOWMANAGER=/usr/X11R6/bin/kde This way when I run startx it starts KDE automatically. Joseph Beaman wrote:
