I want to turn off the beep that occurs everytime that a new mail message arrives. The beep occurs when the red flag on the mail icon goes up when in X. My problem is that I can't find a config file that does this!!! If you're talking about the PC speaker beep, you can turn that off via the
BIOS.

Supposing that you're using IceWM, then look into ~/.icewm/preferences and search for `beep' then you'll end up with something like: # Beep when new mail arrives TaskBarMailboxStatusBeepOnNewMail=0 # 0/1 Set it to 0 then the beeps are being transferred to the eternal bitstreams :-)
