[SuSE Linux] KDE on 5.2 SUSE with rpm
I looked everywhere I could for rpm's for KDE, so I desided to download the gziped tarballs of KDE1.1 and compile them myself. The base of KDE compiled without problems, just follow the instructions on the INSTALL file and wait, and wait and wait. I tried compiling and installing glib C once and that was quick in comparison. The only compilation problems I had was that KDE 1.1 works with a more up to date Qt libary, and kfax. kfax had a probelm compiling, I dont know what as I am just a newbie, only haveing used linux for a year. Anyway, the make files are rearly good with kde, and you just need to remove the name of the faulty app once from the make file (It only occures once) this stops the neet recursive script from compiling that directory. Once this is done the rest of the graphics packages installed perfectly. Was it worth it? Well KDE 1.1 looks better, it is generaly the same but improved, I think if you can afford the time go ahead, but it is a big down load. Question for you, hope you don't mind... I d/l'ed the entire tarball set of KDE1.1 (and have actually gotten the latest CVS snapshot, just not touching it yet :)... but every time I try and run configure it complains a long ways down that it can't find the KDE headers, did you run into this problem, and if so, how did you fix it... BTW, this is while compiling the kdebase package.
Any help would be appriciated...

This is due to the order you compile the parts of KDE, in C and I assume C++ headers are parts of the code that are like units in PASCAL, ie standardised or at least trusted peices of code that are being reused. Because of this headers are needed to be in location first. I installed KDE in this order. kdesupport kdelibs kdebase then everything else in some order or other. Hope this helps.
