I caught it a few minutes ago but now it's gone off line so I guess an admin has moved in. All anyone has missed is a very fuzzy picture of something or other and a strongly worded protest against attempts to curtail Iran's nuclear ambitions. Quite why these militants should target an IT specialist not generally known to the world at large is rather a mystery, if indeed they are who they claim to be. There must be many more suitable platforms for such a message. I wouldn't want to be one of Iran's neighbours if this is their standard of targeting! :) Fish

What I want to know is how? How did they hack the website, and should we be concerned that Novell, which is supposed to be so good at security, is slacking? I didn't see the sight, however I get the "Login to Continue" error. I have no idea why on earth they would target a Linux web page. I also doubt that Iranians were involved, could be an attempt by someone to redirect attention. However, if indeed the sight was hacked, it does make me concerned. -- See Ya' Howard Coles Jr. John 3:16!

It sounds like a very good reason NOT to visit the site for a couple of days. IF it is a genuine Iranian militants attack then take away the oxygen that they are after. By not visiting the site they get no publicity. Though, to be honest, I agree with the majority on here that it probably isn't a genuine hack by Iranian militants. More likely some misguided kid who is very, very clever and got lucky. -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== Take care. How about just to set dns up so, that zone-h.org cannot be reached anymore. Hackers would so not be able to spread their "results". I cannot get rid of the thought that zone-h.org is somehow very close to the hackers!!!! To proof that a hacker can hack it would be enough to let a special icon there. What is the purpose to damage the entire site? Zone-hacker.org seems to go further than just as they describe to proof that the site is hackable. bye Ronald Wiplinger

There is a HUGE difference between hacked and defaced. I'm going to attempt to pop this into small little terms: When someone is defaced, that means someone got write access to the page, nothing more. Microsoft had this happen to them a few months back. When someone's server gets rooted, THEN you would worry. More than likely it was a few pissed off idiots who decided to download an exploit that allows defacement. And please don't take these morons as examples of most defacers. Some of them rock at what they do, like Fone_tone and Rafa, from WOH. -Allen.

It was unlikely a political statement other than that a linux site was hacked. The hackers are probably unrelated to Iran. Note: I didn't see the hack so maybe there was more to it, but it sounds like something some generic teenaged hacker would do for "fun". Steve
