[opensuse] find plugin which plays video streams in firefox
Hello: I would like to watch video content at Hungarian TV archive, eg. this one: http://videotar.mtv.hu/Videok/2010/12/23/21/Tarlos_Istvan_Budapest_helyzeter... I tried different plugins for firefox but so far I could not find any which is able to play it. (I tested kaffeine starter plugin, mplayer plugin 3.55, gecko media player 1.0.0, totem browser plugin 2.28.1, vlc mozillaplugin 1.1.5-1pm.) I have openSUSE 11.2 and use firefox 3.5.11 (opensuse) and occasionally 3.6.x (mozilla version). Please if you know a plugin which plays the above video, let me know. Thank you in advance, Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

trying to play this video in FF 4.08beta and google-chrome, i get a message from gst-install-plugins-helper, saying that a plugin for "MMSH protocol source" is required. this plugin-helper offerst to search for one, but doesn't find it. i've never seen this before. perhaps write to the website operators and ask them? -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Basil, I think you only see the flash ad which introduces the actual video. Correct me if I am wrong. I can see the flash ad as well but after it the video window becomes blank. Thanks for checking it, nevertheless. Cheers, Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Firefox 3.6.13 oS 11.1 x86_64 Hi Istvan (long time no 'chat') The .aspx link document shows the plugin is Silverlight and the media is a .wmv file. On my system, Firefox offered to download and install the 'Moonlight' codecs directly from Microsoft. I accepted the offer and can now view the media ... for the most part, as the page seems to be sometimes buggy. I can't tell if it's the code 'wrapping' the video in advertising or the embedded player, itself, or how the player is presented in the page ? ... Anyway, hth & have a happy 2011 Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

No, it's not an ad - it seems to be a news report or commentary which is 9m 56s long from a TV station's newsroom. That's correct. If I disable all plugins except of flash-player the video is not played, only the ad. I installed moonlight plugin as Carl and Albert suggested and it works with some of the video files. No, no, no. We seem to have a problem with language and getting the message across. I ONLY have the flash player installed in Firefox. No 'moonlight' or any other plugin installed - just simply flash as I mentioned in my earlier post. And I do NOT see any 'ad' but the news item broadcast from the news desk of the MTV studio! Here is what I see: http://picpaste.com/mtv-hungary-nmYP5Dqo.png Now is this an ad. or what?! BC -- A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject. I meant that it is really a report in an TV station's newsroom.
If I disable all plugins except of flash-player the video is not played, only the ad.
Here I meant that flash player does not play the report in my system, but the ad before the report is played by flashplayer.
I installed moonlight plugin as Carl and Albert suggested and it works with some of the video files.
That is, my original problem is solved (partially, since I still can't play some of the videos at the same site).

I did understand what you said, probably my answer was not clear and did not reflect my understanding. See my comments above.

If I only leave the flash player plugin enabled, in my system the video is not played. It would be interesting to find out how to configure firefox and flash player to play the video. I also use firefox 3.6.13 (tried both mozilla and opensuse versions) and adobe flash player plugin from opensuse update repo (flash-player-10.1.102.64-0.2.1.i586 package).
And I do NOT see any 'ad' but the news item broadcast from the news desk of the MTV studio!

No, it isn't. It is the report. If I load the given page in firefox (with only flash player plugin enabled), first an ad is played in the video window, then the window becomes blank, only containing a message "click here to download plugin" and a lego-brick like icon above the message. Clicking on the icon opens the plugin finder service window which after a short search says "No suitable plugins were found". I don't know why the video is not played. Going on with this is only going to get more confusing and deeper in the quagmire so I'll stop here..... However, final comment: why are you trying to use either the Firefox as supplied with the distro and one from Mozilla itself? Dear Istvan, Install Novell Moonlight from here: http://www.go-mono.com/moonlight/ It works for me, but the moonlight (and moonshine) plugins found in the repos by Yast do not. It is always a big pain to play the content from the sites of the Hungarian TV (MTV) at least using oS or other linuxes. In the good old days a simple mplayer did job (and saved the content as well :-)). Istvan, I'm sorry I cannot help you with sound. There is sound here, but the sound slider at the bottom right of the screen (of the streaming video) has no effect at all, even when set to mute. Volume can be changed with either the 'master' or the 'PCM' sliders in Kmix.
