[SuSE Linux] SuSE, RPMs, etc.
Hello, Seeking an alternative to RH I've converted to SuSE, however there's some things that are lacking; hopefully it's just that I don't know where to look. First off, can SuSE use RedHat RPMs (that is, the RPMs @ RH's site, and general RPMs like those for korganizer)? Second, I can't seem to find a main list of RPMs @ SuSE's site, does such a list exist (not just RPMs in the main distribution, but also for other software programs)? Third, I appreciate the fact that YaST can be used in character mode, however a GUI equivalent would sure be nice. I realize KDE has some of the functionality, so I might also mention that greater integration with KDE would be nice =) - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

Hi, generally the redhat rpm's won't work with suse. The errors generally are due to incompatibility between libc5 and glibc. There are also problems where redhat rpm's need to have certain directory structures which are different from Suse, and sometimes redhat rpm's want redhat specific tools installed. Sometimes simple programs will install. Suse ftp site is a depp labyrinth. :-) Look at: <A HREF="ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/SuSE-Linux/5.3/full-names/i386/</A">ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/SuSE-Linux/5.3/full-names/i386/</A> for a full listing of rpm's. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>
