[opensuse] Droidcam with iphone as a webcam, with google duo
I've been using droidcam with an iphone so it can be used with zoom, skype, duo as a camera. It was working until recently, but now with google duo it says something has gone wrong, cannot access camera microphone. Access is allowed in the settings though. This also applies to chromium. It still works with zoom, and skype. I suspected a kernel update, so I booted an old installation of 15.1, which was running kernel 5.4.10, installed the latest google chrome and that worked. I have tried updating my kernel to 5.9 but droidcam would not install. Currenly 5.3.18-lp152.50-default opensuse 15.2 What can I do? I have spend 3.5 hours!
I have done a clean install of Tumbleweed and got this working. I am still mystified about why it won't work on 15.2. Richmond wrote:

On 15.1, Chromium will not correctly ask for camera and microphone access permissions for some Websites. For those, I use Firefox. HTH, Jeffrey

I reinstalled 15.2 and I selected KDE Plasma. (Before I was using Mate). Now it is working again but I still don't know the cause, too many variables. Firefox doesn't allow group calls, which makes it difficult to test Duo (you can test Duo camera just by creating a group), but it is handy as a backup if things go wrong again.

Hmm. I see more and more reason not to move to 15.2 I still have my doubt about 15.1 ... I like 13.2 :-) -- “Reality is so complex, we must move away from dogma, whether it’s conspiracy theories or free-market,” -- James Glattfelder. http://jth.ch/jbg

42.3 and 15.0 were dreams as well. I have no real complains about either 15.1 or 15.2 (other than the virtualbox module issues and the ridiculous dependency for pipewire) But they again, I don't use cameras, etc.. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

I use cameras; I have a DSLR and a compact/pocketable. I take the cards and and via an adapter transfer them to my PC and edit them with Darktable, as I've mentioned here before. But that's not what you meant. And yes, 42.3 was a dream to use. Then 15.0 messed up swap which was supposed to be fixed in 15.1 but never was... "Engineers like to solve problems. If there are no problems handily available, they will create their own problems. Normal people don't understand this concept; they believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet." -- S. Adams -- “I will not touch the furby… I will not touch the furby…” -- “Reality is so complex, we must move away from dogma, whether it’s conspiracy theories or free-market,” -- James Glattfelder. http://jth.ch/jbg
