Re: [SuSE Linux] kppd - Modem USR Modem string?
Thanks for the quick reply. No luck, however. I don't get any "ok" response from the modem, so everything just hangs... Even powering-off the modem to reset it seems to have no effect.
When I went back into windows, I also seemed to have a problem until I reinstalled the modem. I wonder if this is some 'plug and pray' problem?
i missed the beginning of this thread, but it kinda sounds like you've not got your modem set up correctly (port.) have you tried using wvdial, or qadliw, or another app which will autodetect your modem? -derek - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
I am WELL on the way to being a "Linux" man all the way. I can connect to my ISP fine, and send and receive POP3 e-mail flawlessly. I have a couple questions: 1. How do I start Netscape Navagator from the KDE desktop, because that is where I connect from, using kpppd and I like its' layout (very comprehensive). Alternatively, can I connect from KDE and switch to FWM, or whatever and start it from there since there are icons to do so? 2. When I try to play a music CD, I get the error message FATAL ERROR Cannot stat (sic) device /dev/rcd0. Is there some kind of workaround to this. Listening to cd isn't THAT important, but... I am using S.u.S.E. 5.3 Evaluation Copy, and as far as I can tell, everything else works fine. Gates, your time is running out on my machine. Hi- You can create a icon for netscape in kde by opening the templates folder and dragging a program icon to the desktop. Right click on the icon and edit its properties to include executing netscape. I created a number of files and programs on my kde desktop. The password thing I do not understand either. You can change its icon by clicking on the gear icon in the execute view (i think). I stopped using kde when it started taking all the memory in my system after leaving it up for awhile. Fvwm2 just pokes right along for days. I think there are some memory holes in kde. Whilst I am thinking about it; there is also a mailing list for kde which is quite informative. I subscribed to the digest version for awhile. You rightclick on the desktop and choose "new -> program". In the dialogbox you type Netscape.kdelink. On the execute-tab of the newly created icon type in the path to netscape. On my installation it is: /opt/netscape/Netscape.

I assume you're trying to use xmcd? You need to alter the deviceList: entry in the config file (/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xmcd/config/* from the default of /dev/rcd0 to the device name of your CD Rom device, i.e. mine is /dev/hdc I think you can do that by running the config.sh script in the config directory to create the correctly named config file from the device.cfg file. It's a while since I did it, but the docs will explain.
