POP3s running, but will not allow connections
I'm running SuSE 9.1 Pro with all updates installed. Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to 127.0.0.1. Escape character is '^]'. Connection closed by foreign host. postfix/sendmail/pop3 all work 100% . Is there a configuration file I need to modify or something? FYI, I also have used a mail client with ssl support and the connection is refused. TNX

I assume this is a telnet session, to what port (hint: s/b 25)?
postfix/sendmail/pop3 all work 100%
then you are happy, but *are* you using postfix or sendmail?
Is there a configuration file I need to modify or something?
why?

a mail client ?? that is also a mail transfer agent ?? Connection to and how? This is a telnet session to port 995.

I'm using postfix.

I am using Evolution to test the connection with ssl enabled.

I do not use Evolution but I believe that Evolution has a self contained Mail Transfer Agent. Have you configured Evolution to fetch and deliver your mail? And, if you have configured Evolution to utilize postfix, (I assume this is possible) have you configured postfix to deliver your mail? -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery

My crystal ball (R) ;-) says that he is probably trying to set up a pop3s server, and he is testing it fetching with evolution, locally ; but the connection is rejected. That being so, I would suggest the OP to have a look at the mail log. But of course, my ball is very temperamental, they don't make them as in the old times: it might be wrong, and it doesn't have autocheck features; I suppose I should upgrade, but they are so expensive nowdays... :-p -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

At least your works. Mine is like looking into a half metre visibility fog. I realized after re-reading his post saying port 995 that he probably was thinking that Evolution was using system postfix for mail transfer and that Evolution (iianm) did it's own thing unless set to use the systems MTA. He hasn't answered. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery

That's their usual state, no matter how much we polish them :-P

No, he gave up and started a new thread, but without further info. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Saw that. Guess that he didn't want to learn to solve his problem himself or too much effort involved. Maybe someone will do it for him. Then, when he has another problem, maybe they will do it again. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery
