[opensuse] USB tether to smart phone
I often tether my computer to my smart phone via WiFi. However, if I run Windows, I can also tether via USB. Is this possible in openSUSE? I'm running 42.2 & KDE, using the Network Manager to connect to WiFi etc.. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

So, Yes, it should work fine ;) Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I also noticed, on my notebook, where I use Network Manager, it works automagically. But on my desktop, I have to manually set it up in Yast. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I'm guessing this is because the desktop had no other reason to install network manager. When NM is installed, and certain interfaces are set to be handled by NM, then adding a new interface seems to default to that as well. At least thats how it works for me. -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Normally, my desktop has only an Ethernet connection to work with, so Yast is fine. On the other hand, my notebook has to work with Ethernet and a few WiFi hot spots, so Network Manager is needed. I have notice one difference when connected to my home network. With my desktop, the IPv6 address is listed with a /64 prefix. With the notebook, it shows it with a /128 prefix on both Ethernet & WiFi. It doesn't seem to make any difference though. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Sure, I have used it, and works automatically (XFCE and Network Manager). I just connect the phone and the computer via USB (Android phone). In the setup wheel, wireless connections and networks (I'm translating from Spanish, words could differ), Plus. Then "Share Internet and WiFi zone", then "share via USB", which will be disabled if the cable is not connected. I have a shortcut for this. Once you do that, network manager will see it and connect. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" (Minas Tirith))

Actually, all I had to do was plug it in and enable USB tethering on the phone. It came up automagically. ;-) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, exactly. My description above is how to enable USB tethering on my phone. - -- Cheers Carlos E. R.
