I assume you're hit by https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=459744
It's marked as resolved, patch submitted... either you should try to update your system or in worst case the patch is not out yet.

Actually, that seems to be a separate problem. gedit can open a *file* via sftp all day long, never had a problem; the issue seems to be the 'Open Location' expects a file, not a directory.
