Re: [S.u.S.E. Linux] Starting programs/scripts upon booting
look at sbin/init.d/boot.local. See if that's what you want. I think it is. On Tue, 30 Jun 1998, Joseph Beaman wrote:

Hello all,
I have written a few scripts that I would like to run when I boot the machine. I am sure that there is a simple way to do it...but I don't know how. Please help :-)

No, that's not quite it. See, I wrote a script to mount my NT drives to a specific spot on my Linux box. I would like it to mount them when I either start the system or login as root. How can I do that? (editing boot.local did not work--got errors)

Well, I wouldn't use it to mount my drives or partitions. I'm confused. Is NT special ? ( Don't use it. ) How come you can't just set the things you wanted mounted in YaST? I could be being stupid here, cause it's a little late and I'm tired. I'm missing something and I apologize. Duh. michael On Wed, 1 Jul 1998, Joseph Beaman wrote:

Why not just use an /etc/fstab entry provided they are fat16 partitions? Joseph Beaman wrote:

Hi all: I'm pretty new to Linux and still trying to figure out the ropes, apologies for a simple question. But.... Are there equivalent commands in linux for the DOS dir and chkdsk commands? DOS dir is "ls" with its various switches. Do a "man ls" for details. To find out disk free space, type "df". Will give you space used and free on all mounted filesystems. Don - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
Use 'df -k' to give you the output in number of kilobytes. C. J. Tan On Mon, 6 Jul 1998, Donald E. Stidwell wrote:

Famous question, and one that had me baffled when I first started using Linux. :) df is the command you want. There's about 12-13 switches you can use with it- use df --help to explain what the switches are. Besides, df there is also a du command to find out space used by a directory tree enter "du -s ." in a particular tree. "du -a" will list out space used by each file, sub-dir, and finally the dir under which you exec'd it. For more gory details see the resp. man pages.
