If the problem is /dev/cdrecorder, try mounting it as (say) mount /dev/hdd /mnt (or maybe /dev/hdc) Most cdrecorders are EIDE devices /dev/hdX but are mounted through a SCSI emulator in linux because the CD recording programs work that way (why reinvent the wheel?) The SuSE 9.0 setup should detect everything and set it up automatically but it may have gone wrong. I can't remember how to fix this. The last time this was an issue for me was SuSE 6.4. But there are instructions out there, maybe on www.tldp.org. -- JDL Non enim propter gloriam, diuicias aut honores pugnamus set propter libertatem solummodo quam Nemo bonus nisi simul cum vita amittit.
Try /dev/scd0 for the drive if it is using SCSI emulation. And then also check the sym links /dev/cdrecorder and /dev/cdrom to see what they are set to. It may also be that the module was not loaded to support the SCSI devices. So you should check to see if the module loaded. I think the module is called "sg" if I recall correctly. If it is not loaded then try "insmod sg" to load it and try again. Perhaps it will help. On Wednesday 24 December 2003 12:58, steve-ss wrote:

What is /dev/cdrecorder linked too? ls -l /dev/cdrecorder *lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2003-11-21 23:01 /dev/cdrecorder -> sr0 *(one line) If it's not /dev/sr0, then you will have to remake the symlink. If you have a fresh install, it should have done that for you. Also, you must have "ide-scsi" module loaded for burning, not "sg". Not sure where James come up with sg? Lee -- --- KMail v1.5.4 --- SuSE Linux Pro v9.0 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...

Thank you Lee for correcting the module name error. Because his problem actually sounds like a module loading issue. James
