[opensuse] Connecting to a macbook
Got a MacBook laptop today. Does anyone know how to get SuSE to find it. I can ping both ways to and from it. I just can't get it to show in the network area on SuSE nor can I get to show SuSE on it. Well for that matter I have never been able to get SuSe to show up on any of my window machine but I can get them to show up on the SuSe machine. Trying to get away from windows. You can try samba like Steve suggested, but if you have no other use of windows file sharing, try ssh. See if the mac book has sshd running. If not, see if you can start it. That way you can move files back and forth with fish:// or sftp. -- ----------JSA--------- Someone stole my tag line, so now I have this rental. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Whoa, huge thanks for the "fish://"! I was looking for exactly this kind of a tool (I move files between cluster, office and home a lot almost everyday. Typing everytime "scp -rp user@...." was just killing me) Eventually I ended up ssh-ing with -X and running "konqueror &", it was slow, but fish is just awesome. I'll second that. I don't know what percentage of folks have bothered to test the whole fish access, but it is nearly the greatest sting since sliced bread. Case in point. Working at home from last nights backup and get a call regarding new files that need to be reviewed. ctrl+t for a new tab in konqueror and the fish://office.com/samba/clients/xyz, then it's just a drag and drop and the file is local in a matter of seconds. Any updates and it's a simple fish back. (Yes I know I could make edits with a remote copy open, but i prefer the catch-and-release method... -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. I use netatalk to transfer files between my Macs and my SuSE PC. -- Tony Alfrey tonyalfrey@earthlink.net "I'd Rather Be Sailing" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
