[opensuse] Does openSUSE support Metisse 3D Desktop ?
hi all ! I have found this: http://dev.beryl-project.org/~cyberorg/uncategorized/13/metisse-on-opensuse/ Too bad that there is no comparison between 3 major 3D desktops on Linux: Looking Glass 3D, Metisse, Compiz -- -Alexey Eremenko "Technologov" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Is there any more documentation available on that topic ? Is this going to be integrated into openSUSE, as it is in Mandriva ? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I tried building test packages: http://software.opensuse.org/download/home:/cyberorg/openSUSE_10.2/i586/ I have not been able to get them to work :) May be someone can try them out and report if they manage to get them working, you can fetch the .src.rpm too and see what's wrong there. Warning: matisse uses modified fvwm which conflicts with fvwm required by sax2 to run. Hopefully no, if there is any time investment on this "eye candy" stuff..I would like to see efforts over integrating Beryl/Compiz better. Alexey, We need to focus on **one** of the viable alternatives, and do it **right**, instead having ten broken/half working alternatives.
Of the three you mention, the only one that is anywhere close to
production readiness is Compiz/Beryl, and even that is stretching the
definition for a large group of people. They also serve distinctly
different purposes and all require you to make several serious
compromises. At the moment, Compiz/Beryl requires the least
compromises, does the least "damage" to the rest of your system
(incompatible with core applications etc.), hast the best architecture
support, and has most functionality.
When the others catch up, then a comparison is perhaps in order. At
the moment, it just wouldn't be fair on Looking Glass and Metisse :)
