Hi Has anybody else had any problems with Kwintv in 8.0. It installs from the standard installation but will not run ging me all sorts of permission errors. I have a Hauppage card which has worked fine with previous SuSe's. XAWTV runs fine with the same setup. Any hints/clues as to what to try welome. Thanks Mike
I am using an ATI TV Wonder card. I ran kwintv and
it got the channels scanned correctly, but now
whenever I launch it is locks up my machine...
Cannot tell where the problem is. I posted to this

My request for help with ATI Wonder card and kwintv also fell on deaf ears back on May 13 on this list. Here's my message if renewed interest in the topic will now generate some help. I'd appreciate it! --- I'm running SuSE 8.0 and decided to try out my TV Tuner. Setup with Yast2 seemed to go well, but when I tried to run kwintv for the first time, here's what happened: brian@suse:~> whereis kwintv kwintv: /opt/kde2/bin/kwintv brian@suse:~> /opt/kde2/bin/kwintv Warning: main: Can't load program-file /home/brian/.kwintvrc/default.ch! sh: kv4lsetup: command not found Warning: kwintv: kv4lsetup had some trouble, trying to continue anyway. Fatal: v4lx: Error opening v4lx device /dev/video: No such device in ::v4lxif Anybody know what all that means? Any other steps I should take to set up the TV Tuner? Thanks. --- babu walad wrote:

Hi Brian,
I think I used kde3 and kwintv that came with it.
Ironically, after channel scan I actually got a
picture and sound. Then I got cocky and enlarged
the picture window...
Now is simply hangs on launch...
I am going to try to delete the configration and
redo it just in case the resizing messed things up.
Have you tried kde3?

I use SuSE 8.0 & KDE 3.0. KWinTV is doing great on my system.
Hi; There is a fix. Thanks to the SuSE web site I've used this command in root. chmod 4755 /opt/kde2/bin/kv4lsetup KwinTV should work as normal from then on. One word of warning, running SuSEconfig will reset the permissions unless you change it's settings in YaST2 (i.e. turn off permission checking). This has come up a few times on the mailing list. Maybe it should be entered into the Unofficial SuSE FAQ. On Wednesday 19 June 2002 20:06, michael norman wrote:

You don't need to disable permissions checking. Just edit the file /etc/permissions.<level> (where level is what you've chosen in yast2. easy, secure or paranoid). Look for the kv4lsetup line and change the values there to what you want them to be. regards Anders -- `When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, `it means just what I choose it to mean -- neither more nor less.'

I believe this bug* were from 7.3 era... it should NOT go to SuSE FAQ, but to SuSE bug-track.... *bug = can't open kwintv because wrong permision...
