I don't know if this has affected more people, but I have been experiencing trouble with Yast2 over an ssh connection. The problem was Yast2 wouldn't start. (I am installing a new firewall and of course I don't want X installed on it.) The message I got was that the y2controllcenter could not be found. So I searched for it among the packages, but I couldn't find it. My first guess was that it is part of one of the graphical user interfaces for yast (which i don't want to use). I then looked at the yast2 startup script and found that it checks if DISPLAY is set in the shell enviroment. Because I am using ssh to connect to the machine, it is set, and so it tries to launch a graphical user interface. I just removed the DISPLAY variable and Yast2 workes fine over my ssh connection. I hope I helped some people with this information, if not, better luck next time :-) Marcel Schot, Sockit Automatisering B.V.
