[opensuse] I just installed Leap 42.2 on Windows 10
Leap 42.2 is now available at the Windows Store, for installation on Windows 10. This is a command line only Linux subsystem that can be used for running servers etc. Microsoft has really changed, since Bill and Steve left! ;-) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
Correction, that should be 42.3. Also, SLES 12 is available. On 10/29/2017 01:34 PM, James Knott wrote:

Sounds a bit offtopic here :-) Not something I'll be trying out, but congrats! -- Per Jessen, Zürich (10.1°C) http://www.cloudsuisse.com/ - your owncloud, hosted in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Well, it could be a way to get Linux into some businesses. Just yesterday, I was talking to a friend about one of his clients who wants to make documents available to employees over the Internet. However, Windows does not support many simple solutions such as SFTP that can be accomplished with Linux. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I guess you should never say never, but in a business perspective, I find it difficult to see much difference between a Linux virtual instance and a real instance on a PC.

Install Leap? Yes. In fact that's what I did. I only log in as admin when necessary. Also, you can set up Linux passwords separately for root and mere mortals. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I meant, install & run a linux instance.

You can run scripts that do things on the local machine, using bash and other tools we are used to in Linux, and with less resources than a full virtual machine.

I haven't tried it yet, but apparently you can chain commands between Windows and Linux, as described in this article. https://www.techrepublic.com/article/windows-10-new-feature-sees-microsoft-blur-the-line-between-windows-and-linux/?bhid=12825460&ftag=TRE684d531 Also, it's not a full install, but a subsystem. Back in the NT days there were POSIX and OS/2 subsystems. This is an extension of that. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

A fair bit, but still, smaller than a real or virtual install. How will they manage the update to Leap 15.0? LOL! - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. Oops :-) Yes, I see it. They translated the name, it is "Tienda". [...] The button to obtain it is greyed out. Apparently I need a Microsoft Account, which I don't have nor want (Also Leap is limited to 10 copies per account - why?). No, not the reason. Apparently I need W10 16215.0. I have 15063.608.
