[SLE] Suse Linux will not communicate with my Cisco router!
Hi All, My Linux machine (running Suse 6.1, kernel 2.2.5) refuses to communicate with my Cisco 761 router. I can communicate from any PC on my local network to the Linux server and also from any PC on my local network to any PC on the remote network. If I ping the router from a Windows 95 or Windows NT machine it will answer but when I ping it from Linux there is no reply. I can't imagine that I am the first one to encounter this problem and probably somebody already solved this problem, if you have please tell me about it. All machines in the local network have the same address range and subnetmask. Hi, I have had a similar problem in the past, the problem is typically that you do not have the gateway IP number set. On SuSE this is set in route.conf you should have a line like: default ROUTERS_IP_NUMBER_HERE This tells your linux box where to send the packets to if it is to a no local IP number. I have forgotten to set this on a significant number of occassions and spent an afternoon scratching my head as to what is wrong. hope this helps Andy -- Molecular & Cellular Biology, Division of Biomedical Sciences, Queen Mary & Westfield College, Mile End Road, London E1 4NS.
