Modem detection and configuration
I have a modem I'm trying to configure on my father's newly SuSE-fied PC. It is (alledgedly) a real PCI modem, but doesn't show up in YaST's modem configuration. Is there any way to tell which port this modem is appearing as? What's the easiest way to test it? And how is it actually used? (I use a broadband connection, so I've never had to set up a modem before!) Try: hwinfo --modem hwinfo --pci For a "real" modem to be detected, the bios has to report it with a serial port attached, and it shows during the booting up sequence (first screen before lilo or grub). If it doesn't, it is a winmodem, and you need a driver. I Don't like winmodems, I throw them away as garbage: if you have one, somebody else will have to help you :-} -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
