[opensuse] Netflix on OpenSuse 42.3
I am running Thunderbird 52.7, X86_64, under leap 42.3. I am trying to get Netflix running under opensuse. I searched the "Unofficial guide to openSuse Leap 42.3" and found no mention of Netflix. With a Google search I found many proposed solutions, but many earlier solutions via Windows were obsoleted by time. I can not find a Netflix app under Mozilla extensions, though there are a few other apps that enhance Netflix, with the assumption that it is running. I found one page that stated that, after a long period of time, "Linux Users Can Easily Watch Netflix On Firefox". Basically the addition of HTML5 allowed the breakthrough. Can anybody shed light on the steps required to bring up Netflix on Leap 42.3? What does Thunderbird have to do with this? Historically one runs Netflix in any random browser. You seem to be looking for an application. Why? -- Sent from my Android phone with K-9 Mail. Yes, received a display of different source mater. When I clicked on a suggested movie, I received: Whoops, something went wrong... Unexpected Error There was an unexpected error. Hi, I tried different approaches to get Netflix to work with Firefox on Leap 42.3, but no luck. Using Chrome works perfectly, although I'm not a big fan and would like to avoid it. I upgraded to Leap 15 recently but still can't use Firefox for Netflix, so I stick with Chrome for that purpose. I'd be curious how to make it work, though. I'm neither using FF nor Netflix. That said, on first hand make sure that all videos on https://www.quirksmode.org/html5/tests/video.html do work. There was another one, for DRM-protected videos, but I cannot find the link ATM - maybe someone here knows/remembers. Else use Chrome, make netflix your start page and (only) use it for that.... Same. Works For Me™ in both chrome and FF, assuming I've enabled DRM and allowed all the requisite javascript sources (yeah, I run NoScript and its chrome breathren) Used to always use chrome, but oddly enough, some of the controls break there for me now, and _work_ in FF. jdd Don't know where to go from here. The "official version" error really confuses me. I don't know how to get a nonofficial version! The error messages from Netflix are ambiguous and useless, as well as is their tech support. They must give those folks an IQ test to assure they are dumb enough for the job.
Packages like Firefox are so complex, maybe by necessity, that I cannot understand what is going on in all of the sub directories. Don't know how to edit a profile or anything else except within the application. My next approach is to try a beta Leap 15 and see if it works there. Any suggestions welcome.
