Hi all, I've got this situation. We are beginning to use Suse10.1 on our customer service pc at our branches. However they are only allowed to connect to the intranet not internet. So, they cannot use Yast to install packages. So, the problem is, I need to install additional packages such as libxine to play movies on those computers. I can download and install the packages using Yast on my Suse10.1 notebook. Can I copy the downloaded packages from my notebook to those computers and then use the rpm -Uvh command? Where are the packages downloaded by Yast? Like in Fedora, yum keeps downloaded packages in /var/cache/yum Thanks a lot, -- Fajar Priyanto | Reg'd Linux User #327841 | Linux tutorial http://linux2.arinet.org 5:27pm up 1:42, 2.6.16.13-4-default GNU/Linux Let's use OpenOffice. http://www.openoffice.org -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Why not? I use YaST on our local network all the time. You just need a local NFS/FTP/whatever server. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Yes, for local installation source (CD or DVD). But, how about the sources from the internet like packman? Also, the connection from the branch to the HQ is only 64kbps. And setting up a local server on the branch is not possible currently. -- Fajar Priyanto | Reg'd Linux User #327841 | Linux tutorial http://linux2.arinet.org 8:49pm up 5:03, 2.6.16.13-4-default GNU/Linux Let's use OpenOffice. http://www.openoffice.org -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

OK, than I would just download whichever package(s) you want, distribute it to your branches and do an "rpm --install" locally. That should work. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
