Linux supports a variety of partition table types, but defaults to Micro$oft style partition tables. In Microsoft partition scheme upto four primary partitions can be created, one of which can be an extended partition. Traditionally Micro$oft supports only 4 logical partitions in the extended partition. Linux extends this scheme slightly by allowing more than 4 logical partitions to be created in the extended partition. On SCSI hardware u could create upto 15 partitions per drive, while on IDE it is 63 partitions that linux can create. Sethu Bhuvan Global Challenges

Many. You can create four primary/extended partitions, but (IIANM) you can create 128 logical partitions (perhaps less the primary/extended count). This is most likely explained/definded in the Administration book you received with your SuSE Distro. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos
