There's not much you can do, Netscape is just generally slow. Do you have ridiculously large amounts of mail stored using Netscape? I'm sure it's slower than it used to be, but it doesn't take as long as 5 minutes on my P166MMX, and I've got somewhere in the region of 40000 messages floating around in various places.
