Anyone know what version YOU is installing now? Also how can I check what version is installed if I have installed through YOU in the past.
Thanks.
Edit your file /var/log/XFree86.0.log, you'll find the version of the nvidia module. I don't know the version of YOU since I install from Nvidia. Michel.

YOU script does not fetch the newest driver, at least it did not for me a few days ago. Had to install via Nvidia's nvidia-install script. Instructions are here: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/XFree86/nvidia-installer-HOWTO To check to see what version you're running simply: 'cat /proc/driver/nvidia/version' Hope that helps. running glxinfo in a console window will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about your 3D drivers, including the version currently installed

SuSE still seem shy of supplying the NVidia driver in the distro. After installing Mandrake 10.0, I was getting ready to install 5336 when I just thought of running glxinfo and found 5336 installed by that distro. Perhaps there are still potential issues, may be to do with the proprietary module that SuSE wants to steer clear of, but it would make it easier for some folk. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... I agree, for all. Anders -- Right, Connectiva, that's where I first saw it in the package list. I don't think it was in Mandrake before 10.0. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and keen Flyer ===== LINUX ONLY USED HERE =====

Conectiva also includes it in the box

Besides it is not a headache to download the real NVidia files and install them directly. "www.nvidia.com" My MB has vidio, audio and etherenet that is NVidia. So, you do need in this case 2 NVidia files. Another thing to remember that nv will not do 3d and nvidia driver for X is a 3D driver without setting it up using SaX2. 73 de Donn Washburn aka N5XWB

I doubt Mandrake has the cash to pay, perhaps they just hope NVidia won't SCO them later. Some decisions are beyond understanding. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and keen Flyer ===== LINUX ONLY USED HERE =====

There is your solution to why you can copy is as a Linux user. From what I have heard there is not one line of code in the linux version that is written by Nvidia. BUT, their own drvers are copywrited ( stupid, whose going to steal them?) BUT they must give at least some good info to the folks who do write the Linux drivers... and that means there IS a ticklish bit of might be copywrite or not material in the drivers... weird world business -- j -- nemo me impune lacessit it's just an afterthought; okay ? : Women who seek to be equal to men lack ambition.

The problem isn't with copyright. All open source code is copyrighted (all code full stop is copyrighted). The GPL is a copyright license

sorry Anders, I didn't mean to ruffle your feathers that way ;) You are , of course , exaactly correct.. ( times like this I miss my father in law, a lot!) but I was using it more in the general sense that it was "closed" code... as in "don't touch this , don't even look at it or we'll sue you for the rest of your life's earnings " It's clear that there are either some info going back and forth between the Nvidia folks and the Linux folks in getting drivers out... Now if we could only all affrd to bycott the products, as I understand was done to Matrox, until the company turns out equal quality drivers, that use all the potential of the boards .... ah well, we all need to dream a little, I guess. ;) -- j -- nemo me impune lacessit it's just an afterthought; okay ? : Keyboard not connected, press F13 to continue

You seem to insist that nvidia doesn't do their own drivers... They have 'linux guys' working for them... They use linux in some of their clusters, they're devoted to bring quality support for their cards under linux.
Now if we could only all affrd to bycott the products, as I understand was done to Matrox, until the company turns out equal quality drivers, that use all the potential of the boards .... ah well, we all need to dream a little, I guess. ;)
Boycott them? For what? For giving us the best graphic-card drivers available for linux? ___________________________________________________________ALL-NEW Yahoo! Messenger - sooooo many all-new ways to express yourself http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com

no, but because they aren't totally fee code.. at least as I understand it that was the beaf w/ Matrox... it was before my linux adventures began.. -- j -- nemo me impune lacessit it's just an afterthought; okay ? : Latest news? Put 'net.games.hack' in your .newsrc!
Their drivers (for any OS) have licensed stuff from other companies, but they're not 100% 3rd party. They're made by nvidia engineers. From

Sorry to repost, but my latest mail was all bad... here it goes: from http://www.nvidia.com/object/nv_swlicense.html "" License For Customer Use of NVIDIA Software (...) 2.1.1 Rights. According to their license there's no problem on distributing their drivers. ___________________________________________________________ALL-NEW Yahoo!
