If this is just a local thing you may want to just set the ip number in the /etc/hosts file with reference to the name of the box. The file is relatively simple. ipnumber fully-qualified-hostname short-hostname xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx mybox.whatever.com mybox For something more complicated, you could set up DNS and resolve it that way. That should at least get the name resolving on the Linux box. For windows it gets a little more complicated. Like turning on DNS and getting it running.
