Hello, I want to extract the file webfonts.exe from an rpm. This file contains TrueType fonts, and I want to unzip it to get them. The rpm creates directories for TrueType fonts etc, and I don't want all that. Just need the file. I looked at man and Linux in a Nutshell. Can it be done? Hi George, use "midnight commander" mc for that. It can look into tar.gz, rpm and goodness knows what files. ;-) After that, select the file and copy it. This will unpack it. Use rpm2cpio. regards, Gerrit. -- 1011001 1101111 1110101 1110010 1110011 0101100 1000111 1100101 1110010 1110010 1101001 1110100 -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Yes. Either using the Midnight Commander or rpm2cpio and cpio: rpm2cpio rpmfile.rpm |cpio -id "*webfonts.exe*" Ciao, Stefan -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Hello, I could not find the extract single file setting in mc. In any case, this command did not work:
rpm2cpio rpmfile.rpm |cpio -id "*webfonts.exe*"
root@host-name:/usr/TrueType/rpm/trash > rpm2cpio rpmfile.rpm |cpio -id "*webfon ts.exe*" cannot open package: No such file or directory cpio: premature end of archive So, starting from /usr/home/george/download/ I did the below command: rpm2cpio web*rpm |cpio --extract --make-directories --no-absolute-filenames --preserve-modification-time This first created some directories and then extracted the file. I just want the file webfonts.exe . Results shown below. Anyway to make it extract the file into the present directory, and not make the extension /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/webfonts/ ? /usr/home/george/download/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/webfonts/webfonts.exe Thanks George -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
There isn't any settings. Just hit ENTER to the selected rpm, tar, tgz or gz files. George Zeigler wrote:

Did you use the command exactly like this `rpm2cpio rpmfile.rpm ...'? And I thought it would be obvious that `rpmfile.rpm' has to be replaced with the name of the actual rpm.
So, starting from /usr/home/george/download/ I did the below command:
rpm2cpio web*rpm |cpio --extract --make-directories --no-absolute-filenames --preserve-modification-time
This first created some directories and then extracted the file. I just want the file webfonts.exe . Results shown below. Anyway to make it extract the file into the present directory, and not make the extension /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/webfonts/ ?

No rant intended, but have you ever considered to read the fine manual of cpio? You used the `--make-directories' switch -- you _asked_ cpio to create the directories and afterwards wonder why it did exactly that??? Hello,
No rant intended, but have you ever considered to read the fine manual of cpio? You used the `--make-directories' switch -- you _asked_ cpio to create the directories and afterwards wonder why it did exactly that??? Actually I had tried that, I got this error since 'webfonts.exe' demands to be installed in a ~/webfonts/ directory. I guess there's no getting around it.
