Re: [SLE] Adaptec AHA-2940UW Problems
Hi Bill. I had a similar problem with a Digital Prioris and an Adaptec. I couldn't solve the problem of not being able to boot from the installation CD, so I made a DOS boot floppy and used loadlin to start up the installation instead. A few notes: - In the Adaptec SCSISelect BIOS setup, make sure 'drive translation for drives > xGB' is disabled.' I found LILO would hang at 'LI' if this was enabled. - make sure the boot floppy doesn't load win.exe, dblbuff.sys, ifshelp.sys. If any of these things were loaded, it took a hard reset to make loadlin work again. The boot floppy should load aspi8dos, aspicd and mscdex so the CD drive can be accessed from DOS. - Once the system was booted from the DOS boot floppy, setup.exe was run from the first SuSE installation CD. Loadlin was selected as the method of starting up Linux. - Once Linux was running, I loaded the modules for the Adaptec and the network cards, then started the installation. After that, everything proceeded as expected. Hope this helps. Dan.

This computer has no IDE CD-ROM and no IDE hard disks. The CD and hard disks are all connected to an Adaptec AHA-2940UW SCSI controller.
I can boot from the boot disk, and when prompted, I insert the modules disk. It seems when SuSE setup tries to load the aic7xxx driver for the Adaptec, the system hangs.
The computer boots and runs just fine with Windows NT, so it does not appear to be hardware related. When trying a RedHat 6.2 install, the computer also hung when trying to load the aic7xxx drivers.
I have upgraded the AHA-2940UW BIOS to version 2.2 and that didn't help either.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
