Dear list members: Why are the SuSE kernel source packages are so big, ~200 MB? At kernel.org they are only 30-40 MB. Thanks, IG _______________________________________________________________________ [freemail] extra 1GB-os postafiókkal, Önnek már van? http://freemail.hu

What are you talking about? kernel-source is 39.7MB large in 9.3 What are you looking at that is 200MB?

Sorry, you're right. The size is this big after unpacking. Cheers, IG _______________________________________________________________________ [freemail] extra 1GB-os postafiókkal, Önnek már van? http://freemail.hu

Anders, I think what Gabor is talking about is that YOU reports the kernel update package size as being ~180 Meg. This is because the kernel update contains 3 different kernels. The std kernel, the AMD optimized and Intel optimized kernels from which you can select. Only 1 will actually be installed. The actual install of the kernel and source is < 60 Meg. I recently saw this and thought it was strange until I looked at the detailed package information and package selection. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
