What is thr output from "insserv -vr SuSEfirewall2_final"?
newone:/etc/init.d # /sbin/insserv -vr SuSEfirewall2_final Segmentation fault
So it's crashing. If you run
strace -o insserv.strace insserv -vr SuSEfirewall2_final
and mail me the file insserv.strace I might be able to see what's tripping it up
My first attempt at sending the message failed. So, I put it on my webserver: http://209.25.194.148/suse/insserv.strace

What is vpnclient_init and what happens if you remove it? Could the problem be that that is a badly formed script perhaps? Unless that's the problem, it will require debugging.

vpnclient_init is my Cisco VPN client. I use it for work. (I also have it installed on my Toshiba laptop with no issues.) Let me play around with the vpn stuff, and see what happens.
