Latest KDE upgrade and Kmail
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Earlier today I used apt-get to update my system. It dled over 100 files and everything went smothly. When I started Kmail about an hour ago I couldn't read the mail. That is the window with the actual mail doesn't show anything, it's just blank, even the headers. I've tried to change just about everything: fonts, colors.... No luck. still just a blank page. Even when I sett the font to be the same all over. The only way to read a mail is to try to answerr, then I can see the entire text. I tried logging in as another user, then I couldn't get Kmail to show any text in any window. Can someone please help? I'd hate to change mail client. Olle - -- War does not determine who is right, war determine who is left. Some questions which come to mind, Did you run /sbin/SuSEconfig afterwords? (I assume yes) Did you log out and then back in to KDE? I did the same upgrade yesterday and everything seems to be working fine. (although apt-get and synaptic made me do the upgrade in a few steps) You might try updating your sources.list again, (seems like this changed unexpectedly during the middle of my upgrades yesterday causing me a small glitch). then run apt-get update and apt-get -s upgrade again to see if anything turns up. They are usually .<directory name>.index...so you have to do ls -la to see them. Then let KMail reindex the mail directory. That's been discussed on this list before. You upgraded your version of KMail..so it may be cranky about the index files. Give that a shot. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. This didn't help and neither the apt-get rerun. I started playing around some more with the font settings in kmail. Suddenly it started working again. I'm using Nimbus sans at the moment. It seems some fonts stoped working after teh upgrade. One of them is helvetica. The strange thing is that it only affected the window with the actual mail. Not the list windows. Olle
I had so many broken fonts in different apps that approach became unacceptable. For example, I couldn't read the documentation in kdevelop. I just spent days trying to get all that stuff set up. I need to report this the the SuSE feedback if you haven't. Thanks for confirming the problem. That always helps. STH
